ANTIGONE’S HOUSE
Nicosia district, CYPRUS Spilia village, on Troodos mountains
GENERAL INFORMATIONS This traditional small house stands in the centre of Spilia. Built in 1870 by Nicolas Kapournays with stones and “plithari”, it was renovated and had its doors opened in October 2007 by the Minister of Interior, during a ceremony organized by the community of the village. On the first floor of this two-storey house, you can see the unique “museum of the shoemaker” created by its owners, Andreas and Flora Chrysanthou, in memory of Andreas’ father. The hospitality of the owners (welcoming you traditionally), mixed with exciting tradi-tional sweets and food, offer you a different hospitality with roots in the far past of Greeks and Byzantines. “Antigone’s House” is a small house consisting of one bedroom, sitting room, kitchen, shower/wc and veranda.
BEDROOM In the bedroom enjoy the traditional bed, wardrobe and mirror, all made in the beginning of the 20th century. Hand made needlecrafts hang on the walls. An unbelievable environment! Sheets and towels are provided.
SITTING ROOM In the sitting room, the environment is that of early 20th century, due to the old furniture, traditional shelves, devices and tools, old photographs of the village and the owners’ family. A wood stove (fireplace) completes this exciting atmosphere. The sitting room, with exciting traditional furniture, looks like a living museum. Find here television, DVD player, radio/CD player, wifi internet, fans etc.
KITCHEN A small, but fully equipped kitchen is adjacent to the sitting room: Electric furnace, gas cooker, fridge, kapiriera, toaster etc. If you like Mediterranean breakfast or traditional lunch/dinner try us.
BATHROOM Toilet, shower and washbasin
VERANDA a small veranda with traditional flowers complete an exceptional small house, in which you can live in an unforgettable environment.
PARKING PLACE Opened parking place or roofed garage is available.
LIBRARY You can find interesting books in a small library. You can obtain leaflets about the village sights, historical and cultural places near Spilia, nature trails etc for free.
ACTIVITIES Visit the owners museums: Shoemaker and cellar. Spend time with the owners to the family winery producing local wine and famous Cyprus drink Zivania. Try to make and bake traditional bread in their oven fired with wood. Take part in agricultural activities in the owners fields. If you like football or basketball walk on to appropriate place around the village.
